Programs

The Vermont Council on World Affairs brings a diversity of exciting and stimulating programs to Vermonters.

Our programs include bringing world-class speakers to our doorstep to talk about today's important issues, hosting discussion groups on U.S. foreign policy issues, and bringing visitors to Vermont from around the globe to promote international understanding.

New for 2010:

Burlington's Sister City Yaroslavl (Russia) celebrates 1000 years in 2010!

The VCWA and the Burlington-Yaroslavl Sister City Program will be hosting a group of business people from Yaroslavl in May and an Open World group from Yaroslavl from December 3-11, 2010. Check out past programs here.

Burlington established its Sister City relationship with Yaroslavl, Russia, in 1988. Since then, exchanges between the two cities have included mayors, business people, firefighters, jazz musicians, youth orchestras, mural painters, high school students, medical students, nurses, librarians, folk dancers and singers, classical musicians and the Yaroslavl Torpedoes ice-hockey team. Dozens of Yaroslavl students attended Champlain College in the 1990s. Yaroslavl State University (YSU) and the University of Vermont have a program to sponsor undergraduate and graduate students both ways and 20 students from YSU have earned their MBA degrees at UVM over the more than 20 years of the Sister City relationship.
