Journalism, Media, and Disinformation

1.png

Join Olga Yurkova, Journalist and Founder of StopFake.org and Lingling Wei, Senior China Correspondent for the Wall Street Journal for an interactive panel discussion exploring the role that media and journalists play in international affairs and the impact of disinformation in the US and abroad. Perhaps one of the most dramatic societal shifts in recent years has been in the way Americans view the media. Accusations of “fake news” and biased reporting have been leveled at journalists and news outlets across the political spectrum. While some degree of skepticism towards the media has always been present in the United States, and certainly in countries abroad, this level of mistrust seems to be a new development. In many countries, this is not new; journalists in countries around the world have been forced to work in an ecosystem of disinformation and suppression. As Americans grapple with a new media landscape, what lessons can we learn from journalists in other countries?
