Guatemalan born and raised; food has always been something I’m passionate about. I moved to Vancouver for the first time in 2007 to complete the professional culinary program at Northwest Culinary Academy of Vancouver. In the summer of 2008, I assisted with Project CHEF Education Society summer camps and fell in love with teaching, so I decided to stay longer and work for Project CHEF for the school year. After being around kids and marvelling at their accomplishments, I knew I wanted to become an educator. I studied Educational Psychology in Guatamala and I taught for 7 years. In 2015, the cooking world called me back and I joined a farm to table, organic restaurant called “El Mercadito de Lola”. Being part of the restaurant allowed me to be part of the Young Leaders of the Americas Initiative. I spent a month in beautiful Burlington, Vermont, doing a fellowship at Bread and Butter Farm. Three years in the restaurant world, I missed the kids so much I reached out to Project CHEF and in September 2018 I moved back to Vancouver to join the program once again, the place where my two worlds meet in perfect harmony.
